You’ve talked about being risky (hiring unknowns, bringing in more culturally diverse personnel). There has been symposium after symposium about how theatre is about taking a risk. It tends to be, almost, all talk. And I get it. You’ve got a company to run, board members looking over your shoulder, expectant audience members who demand quality, students to educate, or an economic bottom line to meet.
While risk is a nice idea, that idea gets tempered by the day to day realities of running a company / educational institution. BUT we cannot deny that RISK is vital to growth. Stagnancy does nothing to grow a company, impress the board, satiate audiences, inspire students, or increase your bottom line.
